JSA Army Pack and Uprising

Well the hype is now official on overdrive – and the first look at the new JSA Army Box – Uprising! has just been released on the Beasts of War YouTube Channel.

We started the hype with these three teaser images! The uprising of the Japanese nation against the Yu Jing empire has of course been part of the lore from day one, with the Japanese citizens having only second class citizen rights, and the JSA being given inferior equipment and being used as canon fodder in the fight vs the Combined Armies on Paradiso.

So now we have a 300 points JSA army box – a boy does it look sexy!

Starting off we have some great concept artwork – again brilliantly animated in the trailer in the same style as Operation: Red Veil.

Some of the miniatures are instantly recognisable, while some are brand new profiles!  So lets break it down image by image.

Starting off with the wide whole army shot, we have 10 new models. In the standard Red and White army colours of JSA.

Leading off we probably have three Keisotsu with Combi Rifles – the classic line infantry backbone of any army.  Including the obligatory point and shoot guy that CB loves to have in its army boxes.  Glad to see they still have baby pants!

Only a glimpse of this guy in the trailer, possibly Keisotsu with Missile Launcher, but he doesn’t have baggy pants…. So I’d go for the Raiden Seibutai, Heavy Rocket Launcher (without the classic helmet) – as they look like camo emitter things on his legs.

Next up, we have a Kempeitai!  Iconic by his flowing hooded coat.  That weapon doesn’t look like the standard Combi though?  Maybe an upgraded profile?  Usually they have a Boarding Shot Gun or Combi, but I’d say that looks like a Breaker Rifle.

At first glance, I’d go for a Aragoto Senkenbutai!  Love the design aesthetic here, with the cat ears on the helmet!  Look at that huge Scythe!  The Aragoto do not have a good CC, only 14, and no CCW bar a knife.  So maybe we are looking at a new character unit?  Although its not the first time CB mini’s have bigs swords but do not know how to use them…

This guy is clearly an Oniwaniban,  Keeping many of the design aesthetics of the original sculpt and artwork.

The first of the new sculpts.  This is the special edition miniature on the pack, the Kaizoku Special Ops miniature.  So I guess this will just be a baggy pants Keisotsu, with the special ops profile rules, much like the USArianda special ops release.

This ones another mystery unit.  Looks like she’s packing an SMG, and maybe some sort of visor (MSV)?  Maybe a hacking visor?  Doesn’t fit with any aesthetics of any of the current units though – so a new profile I think!

Oh baby! JSA’s first S5 heavy infantry.  The big daddy of the Shikami and Domaru.  This guy looks like he means business.  Expecting ARM5 BTS 6 and MA3 with dual wield for this profile.  No name yet.

Lastly the mystery model of the whole army pack!  Who is she?  Maybe a new CSU?  Carlos did hint that other armies would get them, and their could be a nice SMG in that case.  I’d say this is the new Shinobu (but its a bit too understated for her), or maybe a new unit?  Miniature painting hobbyists will be all over this one, especially the cat!  That pattern on the clothing does look embossed into the model as well (for all of us novice painters!). Or maybe she’s just a cool HVT!  The trailer says 10 new miniatures and this is the 11th, but maybe they aren’t counting the SpecOp as he is limited edition for pre-order only.

Lastly we have the standard but gorgeous cardboard starter terrain pack.  In the same style of the Red Veil but with a different skin, this will be great to play on.  The floor mat doesn’t look as funky as the Red Veil, but more in keeping with a city scape rather than the inside of a ship.  You can also seen the standard tokens, silhouettes,  templates (Smoke! Who has smoke in that list……????) and 8″ movement ruler.

So to sum up I’d go for this as an army list.

  • 3 Keisotsu, Kempeitai and Spec Ops Core Fire Team (45-55)
  • Aragoto Sepenbutai (27)
  • Raiden HRL (21)
  • Shinobu?? (47)
  • Heavy Infantry S5 (50-60)
  • Oniwaniban (41)
  • Hacker?? (19)

Doing the math that is a good 300 points (or even a bit short!)

And of course, we have the Uprising Book which is going to contain a whole section on Non-Aligned Armies.  The current hype is that JSA will be completely changed to a Japanese Mercenary Army and be removed from Yu Jing!  What will this mean?  Who knows!  The only real Yu Jing units currently in JSA are the Yao Kong (Husong, Son-Bei, Chaiyi and Weibing), Pangguling and Yaoxie (Lu Dian and Rui Shi).  Yu Jing on the other hand will lose a great deal (Haramaki, Domaru, Keisotsu, Kempeitai, Ninjas, Shinobu, Tokusetsu, Aragoto, O-Yoroi, Shikami)! ISS will possibly just lose the Ninja (which they shouldn’t have anyway!)

Free the Japanese people from the oppression of the Yu Jing State and fight for the true Emperor to be restored!

Pre-release starts from March 5th as does the Beast of War special week!

P.S. What does this mean???

“The best flower is the cherry blossom, the best man is the warrior”

and not

Flower cherry blossoms Sakuragi people scribble samurai” as google translate suggests!

The rocket launcher and the mystery woman are probably the “Unit-9” minis. They look like Batou and the Major from GITS in which they serve in “Public Security Section 9.”

“among blossoms the cherry blossom, among men, the warrior” or likewise. The proverb means that as the cherry blossom (sakura) is considered foremost among flowers, so the warrior (samurai, usually referred to in Japanese as bushi) was foremost among men.
